A family holiday to Prague
written by Carly Everiss

Come along with me and my family on a lovely city break to the stunning city of Prague! We had such a wonderful time discovering the history and culture that makes this place truly special and have shared some of our favourite spots that you absolutely shouldn't miss!

We love nothing more than visiting new places as a family, so family friendly places are a must. Our children were 8,7,7 and 2 years old when we visited Prague.

The airport had a little soft play area which was a massive hit! Also they had free buggy’s to use to get you around until you collected your pushchair which was amazing, although she clearly wasn’t terribly happy about using it (as you can see from the photos).

Prague, the enchanting capital of the Czech Republic, is a fantastic destination for families with young children. With its fairy-tale architecture, rich history, and plenty of fun activities, there’s no shortage of things to explore.

Prague is compact and walkable, making it easy to navigate with kids. The public transport system, including trams and the metro, is efficient and stroller-friendly. Consider getting a travel pass for unlimited rides, which can save you time and hassle.

Some of the highlights of our trip and recommendations were :

  • Prague Castle - This stunning castle complex is a must-see. Kids will love exploring the vast grounds, including the beautiful gardens and the iconic St. Vitus Cathedral. Don’t miss the changing of the guard ceremony—it’s a hit with little ones!

  • Charles Bridge -  Stroll across this historic bridge adorned with statues. The views of the Vltava River are breathtaking, and street performers often entertain, making it a lively spot for families.

  • Old Town Square - The heart of Prague is filled with history and excitement. Watch the Astronomical Clock strike the hour, and let your children enjoy the open spaces where they can run around and explore.

  • Museum of fantastic illusions-  This is a must! This was a firm favourite amongst all of us. The boys still talk about this to this day! This unique attraction combines art, science, and a healthy dose of creativity, making it an engaging stop for families, friends, and anyone with a sense of wonder. It's suitable for all ages, making it a perfect outing for families with young children.

  • Petrin Hill & Funicular  - Take a ride on the funicular to the top of Petrin Hill, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. There’s a beautiful park, a mirror maze, and even a mini Eiffel Tower that kids will love climbing!

  • Prague Zoo - Recognised as one of the best zoos in the world, Prague Zoo is a fantastic family outing. Kids can see a wide variety of animals and enjoy interactive exhibits. The zoo also has a petting area that’s perfect for younger children.

  • Letná Park - This large park offers plenty of green space for picnics and play. There’s a playground, and the views of the city from the hilltop are spectacular. It’s a great place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

  • It’s not a trip to Prague until you’ve had a Trdelník, it’s a traditional Czech dessert that's a cross between a cinnamon roll and a doughnut that can be filled with multiple fillings. It’s a must!

Prague is a city that welcomes families with its charm and myriad attractions. From exploring fairy-tale castles to enjoying vibrant parks, your family will create unforgettable memories. So pack your bags and get ready for an adventure in this magical city!
